Schools are being urged to think more carefully about the way they use energy. The government wants all schools to be 'Sustainable Schools' by 2020 and from 2016 onwards all new schools must be carbon neutral. This is great news for the environment, makes perfect financial sense and gives rise to exciting teaching opportunities that will help equip our young people with the knowledge and skills they need to face future challenges.
Whitfield First School was the first to achieve a fully carbon neutral position in Northumberland. Under a £450,000 project, our rural village school has undergone a remarkable transformation. This website is all about sharing with others what we have learned along the way. We hope this information will be of use to other schools and community organisations embarking on their own low carbon projects.
